BEAUFORT: A vehicle accessories shop in Beaufort was destroyed in an early morning fire on Monday.

Beaufort Fire and Rescue chief Ishak Jabas said an emergency call was received at 2.06am, and nine firefighters were dispatched to the scene along with two personnel from Kuala Penyu.

“The first engine arrived three minutes later as the location was only about two kilometres from the station.

“The blaze involved a permanent structure measuring 20 by 40 feet, with the entire ground floor gutted,” he said.

Firefighters used two 200-foot hose lines, four jets, and water from a nearby hydrant and Kuala Penyu’s water tanker to battle the flames. They also cut through the shop’s rear grille to contain the fire.

The blaze was brought under control at 4.16am, with overhaul operations carried out until it was fully extinguished.

No casualties were reported, while losses and the cause of the fire are still under investigation.
