BEAUFORT: Residents here are advised to store water in tanks ahead of water supply disruptions due to repair works at the Tenom Pangi Hydroelectric Power Plant carried out by Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB).
Department engineer Alchemy Lobo October Sabin said the repair works will take two weeks.
Among affected areas are Beaufort town, Limbawang and nearby villages, along the Lumadan area up to Padas Damit, Lumadan and Bukau villages.
“It is true that the water supply will be interrupted up to 50 per cent and sometimes it cannot be supplied at all. This is compounded by the river conditions where the tides are sometimes high or low,” he told Daily Express, Thursday.
The Water Department has stored water supply for consumers but it is feared to be insufficient. Therefore, users are urged to take preparatory measures by storing water supply in their own tanks.
Alchemy said the Water Department has made preparations a week ahead of the Chinese New Year festivity and hoped it would be sufficient for users.
Meanwhile, Alchemy said there was a need to have a permanent dam such as Off River Storage (ORS) to store water supply as a preparation for water disruptions.
“I hope the Government will approve its construction,” he said.
