Belfast protests: Houses charred following night of unrest in before and after footage

Homes in Belfast have been left scorched following a night of disorder in response to a knife attack in the city on Monday (9 June).

A Sudanese man, 30, has been charged over the attack that left one person in a serious condition. Police said the 30-year-old has been charged with attempted murder, while the victim, a man in his 40s, has been hospitalised with serious injuries.

Footage taken during the middle of the protests on Tuesday (9 June) shows police pulling people from their homes as fires raged on Lendrick Street. A Sky News report from the next day shows several homes severely burnt, including one that appeared to have been celebrating a birthday.

The 30-year-old Sudanese man, who entered Northern Ireland across the Irish border in February 2023, will appear in court in the city on Wednesday (10 June).
