Kota Kinabalu: Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) Beliawanis will continue identifying the needs of young people and work with students on programmes that can benefit them, said its Chief Emmie Martin Idang.
She said its efforts would not be limited to welfare and food assistance, with other initiatives including skills development programmes such as digital marketing being considered amid technological development and globalisation.
“We will try to see what young people need, listen to them and work with students on what they want to do,” she said at the Beliawanis Prihatin programme at Sabah Unitar here, on Friday.
Emmie said the Beliawanis Prihatin initiative, one of the movement’s main projects this year, was introduced after receiving feedback that some students were struggling to afford sufficient food, including some who could not afford even one meal a day.
“Although we are a political party wing, we still prioritise the interests of young people, and whatever we can do to help students, we are happy to provide the support,” she said.
The initiative has led to the establishment of the Sabah Unitar food bank and has so far reached nine locations involving educational institutions, hostels, a tahfiz centre and welfare homes across Sabah, with Kota Belud and Kudat next this month.
