SANDAKAN: Beluran Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) has strengthened its ranks with several leaders and members from other parties joining its pro-tem committee, including those who were political rivals in the last election.
Division Chief Datuk James Ratib said they included a former Bersatu Deputy Division Chief, a Labuk Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) coordinator who is also a former Labuk assemblyman, several Beluran Umno leaders and committee members, and the Sugut Warisan Division Secretary.
“We did not ask them to join Gagasan Rakyat, but they did so voluntarily, and I understand more from other parties will join us,” said James, who is State Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister and Sugut Assemblyman.
He said this after officiating the Beluran Gagasan Rakyat Pro-tem Division Formation Meeting here on Sunday, where Labuk Assemblyman and State Assistant Rural Development Minister Datuk Samad Jambri was appointed Deputy Division Chief.
James described the new leadership as a strong combination of experienced figures from different political backgrounds, saying Gagasan Rakyat was well positioned in the Beluran parliamentary constituency comprising Sugut, Labuk and Telupid to face the next election.
