Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], July 1 (ANI): West Bengal Minister Indranil Khan on Wednesday levelled serious allegations against the Trinamool Congress (TMC), accusing the party of fraud and deception in the conduct of medical camps and claiming that interns were allegedly made to function as senior doctors under a "threat culture" during the tenure of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as the state's Health Minister and later as Chief Minister.

Speaking to ANI, Khan claimed that Ayurvedic doctors were presented as specialists in allopathic medical camps, misleading the public.

"TMC means scam, fraud and deception. An Ayurvedic doctor is supposed to treat patients using Ayurveda, that is, naturally. But imagine being told someone is a cardiologist at an allopathic camp, only to find an Ayurvedic doctor seated there instead," Khan said.

The minister further alleged that a "threat culture" existed across medical colleges in West Bengal during Mamata Banerjee's tenure as Health Minister and later as Chief Minister, claiming that it extended into the functioning of medical camps.

"Then there was the 'threat culture' prevalent when Mamata Banerjee was Health Minister and later Chief Minister, a culture that permeated all medical colleges. Interns do not have the right to practice independently; their role is to observe and learn under the supervision of senior doctors. Yet, they were forced to pose as senior doctors... at Abhishek Banerjee's camps. That in itself is a fraud," he alleged.

Khan also accused TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee of orchestrating the alleged fraud with the backing of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

"Abhishek Banerjee orchestrated this fraud with Mamata Banerjee's backing, using threat culture to compel people to act this way. But the days of fear are over; the days of trust have arrived. As threat culture is being eliminated from medical colleges and hospitals across West Bengal, those who committed wrongs or defrauded the public will be held accountable," he said. (ANI)
