Residents of a flat building in Bercham, Perak, braved through a house fire to rescue a differently-abled teenage boy who was alone in the burning flat unit.

According to a report by China Press and a Facebook post by the 巴占义务消防队 Persatuan Bomba Sukarela Bercham Ipoh, Perak, the fire occurred yesterday (8 January) at about 6pm, while the differently-abled teenager was taking a bath.

The chairman of the 巴占义务消防队 Persatuan Bomba Sukarela Bercham Ipoh, Perak, explained that the resident of the flat unit was an Indonesian man who holds a Malaysian permanent residency permit, and was living there with his teenage son.

Community effort

Considering that the fire happened when the Indonesian man was not at home, neighbours immediately entered the flat unit through the back door and rescued his teenage son.

Police officers from the Bercham police station also assisted in the rescue efforts by trying to break down the front door.

Some neighbours also used water hoses in an attempt to put out the fire before volunteer firefighters arrived at the scene. Thankfully, the volunteer firefighters managed to extinguish the fire at about 7:20 pm.
