Berjaya Cares Foundation donates a 28-seater coaster bus and 500 Bakul Rahmah food baskets to St Joseph Secondary School in Papar, Sabah.
PAPAR: Students of St Joseph Secondary School, Papar, will have improved access to transportation following the contribution of a 28-seater coaster bus by Berjaya Cares Foundation (BCF).
The charitable arm of Berjaya Corporation Bhd (BCorp) said the contribution was aimed at supporting education and student welfare in rural and suburban communities.
The new bus will provide students with safer and more reliable transportation for their daily commute, as well as for educational trips, school programmes, competitions and other activities.
In addition to the bus, BCF distributed 500 Bakul Rahmah food baskets containing essential daily necessities to underprivileged students and their families.
The bus was presented by BCF chairman Tan Sri Vincent Tan to St Joseph Secondary School principal Jenith Mahibol during a ceremony at the school today.
The event was witnessed by Domestic Trade and Living Costs Minister and Papar MP Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, as well as other invited guests.
Tan said every young person should have the opportunity to learn, grow and pursue their aspirations regardless of their circumstances.
“Education is one of the most meaningful ways we can invest in the future. By supporting our young people today, we are helping them build the confidence, knowledge and experiences they need to shape a brighter future for themselves, their families and their communities,” he said.
He added that the bus represented more than just transportation, as it would give students greater access to opportunities beyond the classroom.
“It represents greater access, greater opportunity and the freedom for students to take part in the many experiences that can inspire them to learn and achieve more,” he said.
Founded in 1953, St Joseph Secondary School, also known as SMK St Joseph, Papar, is the oldest secondary school in Papar.
The 73-year-old school currently has about 1,000 students and focuses on academic achievement, character development and holistic growth.
BCF said the initiative forms part of its continued efforts to support students and communities through education, welfare and practical assistance.
