PETALING JAYA: Bersatu deputy information chief Ali Mohamad has been remanded for six days to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigation into alleged bribery.

His lawyer Rafique Rashid Ali said MACC officers raided Ali’s house in Tangga Batu yesterday evening.

“He was brought to the MACC office (in Melaka) along with his wife and children at around 9.30pm yesterday (to record his statement),” he told FMT.

“His wife and children were later released.”

Ali served as deputy Senate president from December 2020 to May 2023.

Before joining Bersatu last year, he was a member of Umno and led its Tangga Batu division.

He contested the Sungai Udang state seat in the 2021 Melaka election but lost to Aleef Yusof by a narrow margin of 530 votes.

FMT has reached out to MACC for comment.
