Bersatu expels and suspends senior leaders in party disciplinary crackdown

THE Bersatu Disciplinary Board has expelled and suspended several elected representatives and party leaders with immediate effect, in one of the party’s most significant internal disciplinary actions in recent years.

Among those expelled are Dzowahir Ab Ghani, the State Assemblyman for Suka Menanti who also serves as Alor Setar Division Chief; Abdul Razak Khamis, State Assemblyman for Sungai Tiang; and Muhammad Faiz Rahmad, Hulu Langat Division Chief.

In addition, five Members of Parliament have been suspended from party membership rights for two election terms.

They are Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (Tanah Merah), Datuk Abdul Khalib Abdullah (Rompin), Nordin Ahmad Ismail (Lumut), Datuk Rosol Wahid (Hulu Terengganu) and Datuk Khlir Mohd Nor (Ketereh).

Two state assemblymen were also suspended: Ahmad Man, the Kuala Sepetang assemblyman, and Syed Lukman Hakim Syed Mohd Zain, the Chenderoh assemblyman.

The disciplinary action was taken after the individuals were found to have breached Clause 9.1.4 of the party constitution as well as the party’s Members’ Code of Ethics and Conduct.

The party also issued warning notices to Roslan Hashim, MP for Kulim Bandar Baharu; Kalam Salan, MP for Sabak Bernam; and Zakri Hassan, MP for Kangar.

Speaking to Bernama, Nordin Ahmad Ismail confirmed receiving his suspension notice.

“Yes, it is true; it’s confirmed (I received the suspension letter). The reason (for the suspension) was attending a programme hosted by someone who has already been expelled,” he said, referring to the “Reset” programme organised by former Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

Nordin added that the affected leaders were expected to meet soon to coordinate their next steps before deciding whether to file an appeal within the 14-day period allowed under party rules.

Datuk Abdul Khalib Abdullah confirmed that he received his suspension notice via WhatsApp at around 6.00pm the previous day. He had previously been removed from his position as Pahang Bersatu chief.

Datuk Khlir Mohd Nor also confirmed receipt of the notice, saying he accepted the party’s decision. - May 9, 2026
