GUA Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim expressed confidence that his position, along with the five other Bersatu MPs supporting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, will not be impacted by the party's upcoming constitution amendment.
"As far as I know, the constitutional amendment that Bersatu is set to make will not affect the MPs because the amendment is being made after we voiced support for the PM. God willing, nothing will stop me from serving my constituents in this parliamentary term," Azizi said, as quoted by Malaysiakini.
Two weeks ago, an anonymous parliamentarian stated that the party's leadership arrogance had led the six MPs to support Anwar. He highlighted that the party's top leaders refused to listen to its parliamentarians and negotiate with Anwar for opposition MP allocations.
Despite the existing anti-hopping law, which does not apply to the six MPs from Bersatu who supported Anwar, the MPs stood by their decision.
Bersatu's information chief, Datuk Razali Idris, announced that the party will hold a special general assembly on March 2 to discuss the fate of the six MPs. "God willing, it will be the end of the six MPs who are backing Anwar; hopefully, Bersatu will rise again and continue to move forward," Razali wrote on Facebook.
The other five Bersatu MPs supporting Anwar are Tanjung Karang MP Datuk Zulkafperi Hanapi, Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, Jeli MP Zahari Kechik, and Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman.
The support for Anwar Ibrahim from these six Bersatu MPs has sparked discussions within the party and raised questions about their future within Bersatu. Despite the party's amendment to its constitution, the MPs remain steadfast in their support for Anwar, emphasizing their commitment to serving their constituents.
The upcoming special general assembly on March 2 will likely be a crucial moment for Bersatu, determining the fate of these MPs and the party's direction moving forward. The outcome of the assembly could potentially impact the political landscape in Malaysia, especially considering the delicate balance of power within the ruling coalition.
For now, Azizi and the other five Bersatu MPs supporting Anwar remain resolute, confident that their decision to support the Prime Minister is in the best interest of the country and their constituents. The coming days will reveal the outcome of Bersatu's internal deliberations and the implications it will have on Malaysian politics.
As Bersatu prepares for its special general assembly, the future of these six MPs and the party's internal dynamics are uncertain. The outcome of the assembly could have far-reaching implications for Bersatu's role within the ruling coalition and Malaysia's political landscape as a whole.
The support for Anwar Ibrahim from these six MPs underscores the complexities and fluidity of Malaysian politics, where alliances can shift, and individual decisions can have significant repercussions. As the country navigates these political waters, the actions and decisions of key players like Bersatu and its MPs will continue to shape Malaysia's political future.
