Bersatu never agreed on GRS being part of unity govt: Kiandee

KOTA KINABALU – The memorandum of understanding signed between five parties yesterday was not valid as Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor did not have the capacity to represent Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), said Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee.

The Sabah Perikatan Nasional chairman, and newly appointed Sabah Bersatu chief, stressed that the party as a founding member of GRS has never agreed for the coalition to be part of the unity government.

“Hajiji did not have the validity to remain as GRS chairman after he left Bersatu.

“The MoU signed between the political parties to support the unity government yesterday was not valid, and it did not represent Bersatu’s aspiration through GRS,” he said in a statement today.

Kiandee said Hajiji was appointed as GRS chairman in his former capacity as Sabah Bersatu chairman, which is no longer the case.

Hence, Hajiji is now only an individual member of GRS and his position as the coalition’s chairman must be decided again by its supreme council, he said.

Kiandee argued that Bersatu is a valid member of GRS according to Article 6.1 (ii) of the coalition’s constitution.

“As the party’s Sabah chief, I stress that Bersatu was never involved in any discussion to decide whether GRS will support the Pakatan Harapan-led government,” he added. – The Vibes, December 17, 2022
