PETALING JAYA: Bersatu vice-president Ronald Kiandee will not be defending his Beluran seat for Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), with Barisan Nasional fielding its own candidate for the parliamentary seat.

Kiandee, a five-term Beluran MP, quit Umno in December 2018 when Pakatan Harapan was the government. He is also the agriculture and food industries minister.

According to Bernama, BN will be fielding former Sandakan municipal council president Benedict Asmat for the seat. This followed negotiations between BN and GRS, who are collaborating in the 15th general election.

Sabah BN chief Bung Moktar Radin also said the coalition will field state assistant minister Andi Suryady Bandy for the Kalabakan seat. Andi is also the Tanjung Batu assemblyman.

“Sabah BN is confident that both candidates, who are professionally qualified and ready to serve, will be able to shoulder the responsibility of representing the interests of the people when they are elected,” he said in a statement late last night.
