Bersatu wants to reclaim Labuan seat

LABUAN: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu)  has  established a pro-tem committee on reclaiming the Labuan parliamentary seat it won during the last election.

Businessman Abdul Wahab Zainal who was appointed as the pro tem  chief by party president  Tan Sri Haji Muhyiddin Yassin on Dec 10 said.

“The Labuan seat belongs to Bersatu and we are determined to have it back  and we are confident of success because though our Bersatu MP has switched sides, the grassroots are still with the party.”In the  last general election Bersatu made its electoral debut by fielding Datuk Suhaili Abdul Raham who had won the seat before for two terms ( 1999:2004) under Umno.

Suhaili defeated Umno candidate (Datuk Bashir Alias) with a margin 708-vote and later declared support for to the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Wahab said as opposition party, Bersatu will serve as the voice of the people which had been frequently ignore  and highlight community woes.

On the administration of the island  Wahab  said it was a failed Federal Territory as reflected by no significant investments, growing unemployment and rising cost of living.

“If given a chance Bersatu would fix things in Labuan,” said Wahab.
