A six-month pilot project involving the full closure of the U-turn at KM9.5 in both directions of the Sungai Besi Expressway (BESRAYA) will begin today, Jan 5, as part of ongoing efforts to improve traffic flow, safety and user comfort.

Besraya (M) Sdn Bhd, with the support of the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), said the temporary closure is being implemented in response to increasing congestion caused by rapid development along the expressway corridor, including Sungai Besi, Kampung Malaysia, Kuchai Lama, Salak Selatan, Bandar Tasik Permaisuri and Taman Salak Jaya.

The higher traffic volumes have resulted in frequent congestion during morning and evening peak hours.

The operator said traffic weaving at the KM9.5 U-turn has been disrupting the main carriageway flow and contributing to bottlenecks in the surrounding area, prompting the need for the trial closure to improve overall traffic smoothness.

During the trial closure period, motorists travelling from the south are advised to use the U-turn at KM8.6, while those travelling from the north should use the U-turn at KM10.5. Motorists are encouraged to refer to the infographics provided for further details on the closure and alternative routes.

BESRAYA apologised for any inconvenience caused and advised road users to plan their journeys ahead and drive with caution. For enquiries, motorists may contact the Besline hotline at 1-800-88-0999.
