Toastie’s quilted 2.5-tog snowsuit struck me as both exceptionally cosy and impressively thoughtful in its design. The double zip, shower-resistant finish and sweet animal-ear hood give it a premium, practical feel. With a wide range of patterns to choose from, there’s a design to match every baby or toddler, and I liked how the hands and feet had additional fleece lining for added warmth for babies. It’s also a stand-out from a sustainability point of view: the zips are made from recycled plastic, the vegan-friendly suit is filled with Sorona faux down derived from corn, and the brand itself holds B Corp status. The suit came out perfectly when cleaned in the washing machine and dried quickly on the line. (Though it can be tumble dried.) In short, it’s a brilliant choice if you want warmth and longevity – and without compromising on eco credentials.

This cute snowsuit is a great example of George’s budget-friendly range, and during testing it impressed me more than I expected. I tried the tulip print version on my three-month-old at a drizzly, freezing Christmas market in Sheffield, and it kept her reliably warm and dry throughout. While this floral design is now out of stock, there are plenty of other styles to choose from, including a blue stripe and beige dogtooth print.
The padding feels soft yet durable, and the smooth, longer-than-usual zip makes nappy changes far less of a faff. With built-in mittens and booties, it’s a great value choice for babies who aren’t yet on their feet. It can’t be tumble dried but when cleaned in the washing machine, I found it came out almost dry.

Underneath, there's a cotton jersey lining, so it feels comfortable against the skin rather than scratchy or overly synthetic. I particularly like the little details: the integrated hood has cute ear-shaped details, there are popper fastenings down the legs and the front has practical button fastenings.
It's not waterproof or designed for really wet weather, so I'd think of this as a warm layer for chilly autumn and winter days rather than a suit for standing around in snow. It's also machine washable, which is exactly what I want from anything worn by a baby. The style and warmth make it particularly appealing for babies who are still spending lots of time in the pram.

I like that M&S has thought about how quickly babies grow, too, with a footless design that won’t restrict their movement. The outer is made from polyester, with padding and lining, so it feels reassuringly substantial without being excessively bulky.
It's machine washable and can be tumble dried low, which is a big plus for something that's likely to be exposed to muddy pavements, spilled milk and general baby chaos. I'd choose this for genuinely cold winter days rather than milder autumn weather, when it could be too warm.

If you're after something cosy for a newborn, this Mamas & Papas pramsuit is a lovely option. The vintage-inspired watercolour ditsy floral print gives it a much prettier, more traditional baby feel than some of the sportier padded suits, while the soft cotton lining feels gentle against delicate skin.
It's nicely thought through for those early months, with integrated scratch mitts, a lined hood and elastication at the back for a little extra shape. The double zip is probably my favourite feature: it opens the suit much more widely, making it considerably easier to get a tiny, sleepy baby in and out without too much wrestling.
There's also a zip guard for added comfort around the chin. It's machine washable and can be tumble dried on a cool setting, which is essential when you're dealing with a newborn and their seemingly endless ability to produce mess. It's not waterproof, so I'd reserve it for crisp, dry days rather than heavy rain, but for pram walks in cooler weather, it's a really sweet choice.

Mori’s snowsuit immediately impressed me with its super-soft, padded feel and eco-conscious design – it’s made from recycled nylon and can be recycled again after use. The label even has space for up to three names, encouraging it to be passed on over and over. Babies and small children will stay cosy thanks to its quilted fabric, faux fur, and fleece lining, while fold-over mittens and booties will keep tiny hands and feet warm.
I especially liked the full-length zips down to the feet, which can make dressing and nappy changes hassle-free. We tested the suit in light green and I was nervous about how well it would wash; it came out sparkling, though did take a little while to dry on the line.

This clever hybrid impressed me with its ability to switch from a snug footmuff to a fully wearable snowsuit using just a couple of zips. It does take a little practice – the zipping is certainly an art form, and I found it slightly fiddly with gloves on – but once you’ve got the hang of it, the versatility is brilliant.
The padding feels luxurious, the fur-trimmed turnover mittens add warmth, and the large six-month size windows means you can layer up or down as the weather changes. It washed well and I found undoing the zips at the base helped it dry quickly on the washing line.

I found that a large quantity of half-dried milky dribble washed away perfectly; FYI, the brand advises tumble drying as a means to ‘reactivate’ the suit’s water-repellent finish. Designed to be passed on once your child has grown out of it, the tag on the product even includes space for up to four children’s names.

It’s rare that snowsuits can be described as ‘sumptuous’ but in the case of this houndstooth design from Brit heritage brand Holland Cooper, it feels appropriate. From its smooth double-zipped front (with coated zips for extra weather protection) to its marshmallow-soft padding and fur lined interior, this snowsuit is perfect for keeping babies snug in the pram all winter long.
I also like that its booties are detachable, meaning budding walkers can swap them out for wellies (the mittens can also be removed). It washed perfectly although I almost forgot to remove the faux fur trim; it came out almost dry and was finished off quickly on the washing line. (The brand advises drying it ‘in the shade’.) The booties also can’t be removed, although this means it’s less practical for toddlers who are starting to walk, as does the fact it’s not waterproof.
Still, for everyday winter outings, its softness and insulation are outstanding. It also washed brilliantly – after my baby was sick on it, it came out of the machine looking new and tumble-dried perfectly.

High street giant Next has a vast range of snowsuits available for babies and toddlers, with this one catching my eye due to its timeless aesthetic and practical design. Perhaps most excitingly of all, it also features pockets – a detail that many of the snowsuits tested seem to lack. Albeit the pockets are closer to the chest area.
With a trio of smart colours to choose from, I found the snowsuit to be a reliable waterproof option, with its recycled polyester wadding keeping things snug. I found it dried quickly on the line after a spin in the washing machine, too.
