The SnuzBaskit is a really clever update on the traditional Moses basket, and I particularly like how much thought has gone into making it practical rather than simply pretty. It feels incredibly lightweight when I’m moving it around the house, despite feeling sturdy and well-made, which is exactly what I want from a newborn sleep space.
I was initially unsure about the recycled felt, worrying that it might show up every little bit of baby sick, but thankfully it can simply be surface cleaned with a damp cloth. The Najell sleepcarrier is the wildcard in this guide, but I think that's exactly why it's worth considering. Rather than looking like a traditional Moses basket, it's essentially a portable sleep space that can move with you from room to room, into the pram and eventually transform into a playmat. I really like that versatility for the newborn stage, when you can find yourself moving baby around the house constantly.
The mesh sides are breathable, and the firm mattress provides the support I'd want from a newborn sleep surface, while the locking system makes adjusting the size straightforward. It weighs around 1.5kg, so it's considerably easier to move than a conventional basket, but the trade-off is that there's no stand – and you can't use it on one – so it's a very different proposition from a traditional Moses basket. One major plus point though is that it also folds out to a generous 111cm x 66cm playmat when baby is awake.

The Shnuggle dreami is a good choice if you want something that feels very different from a traditional wicker Moses basket that is easy to clean. It has a modern design, but I have to admit I wasn't the biggest fan of the look myself – to me, it looks a little like a plastic tub. This is completely down to personal preference, and I can see why you'd prefer its minimalist design over a traditional woven basket.
More importantly, the practical details make a lot of sense for everyday use. The ventilated base and breathable mesh liner give it plenty of airflow, while the hypoallergenic basket is reassuringly easy to wipe clean, which is particularly useful when you're dealing with newborn spills. The whole setup feels well made and sturdy, while still being easy enough to move around the house when empty.

The Ghanaian woven grass basket is beautifully rustic, with incredibly sturdy leather handles and the kind of craftsmanship that makes it feel like a piece you’ll want to keep, rather than have as a short-term baby product. The quality is so impressive and I particularly like that each basket takes around three days to weave, so there’s a real sense of individuality to every one.
The bundle includes a coco mat mattress and jersey liner, which keeps the inside feeling soft and comfortable while the basket itself remains wonderfully breathable. The coco mat mattress is also reassuringly firm rather than overly squishy. Everything feels well thought out, but this quality does come at a cost, with the Naturalmat offering being the most expensive in my final line-up.
