A man venting his frustrations at local hotel operators resonated with a majority of Malaysians online recently after he called for the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) to step in and resolve the arbitrary check-in and check-out times that many hotels in our country seem to implement nowadays.

The man, Hakim H, took to his X (formerly Twitter) account @netnetwok to complain about how check-in times are constantly delayed while check-out times are expedited by Malaysian hotel operators.

In the X post, Hakim H said that if the relevant stakeholders want Malaysians to support our local tourism, MOTAC must step in to resolve the issue of arbitrary check-in and check-out times.

He asserted,

“Having check-ins at 4pm and check-outs at 11am are absurd. Do we have to boycott hotels which implement this policy?”

Malaysians urge for these hotel operators to be boycotted

One reply lamented how these hotel operators provided unreasonable reasons for this practice, such as saying that the housekeeping department didn’t have enough time to clean the rooms.

Meanwhile, another commenter agreed that these hotel operators should be boycotted as their delayed check-in times and early check-out times are getting ridiculous, making the stay not worth it.

Besides that, several commenters urged for check-in and check-out times to be standardised for all hotels in our country, which is 2pm check-in and 12pm check-out.

Another Malaysian went a step further by urging for a list to be made of hotels which make delayed check-in times and expedited check-out times so that it’ll be easier for Malaysians to boycott them.
