As lakhs of students across the country prepare for one of the most competitive medical admission cycles, Delhi’s premier government medical institution has warned MBBS aspirants and parents against fraudsters promising guaranteed seats.
The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences (ABVIMS) and Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital have cautioned candidates against agents, middlemen and unauthorised agencies claiming to secure admission to the institute’s MBBS programme for the 2026-27 academic session.
In a public advisory, the institute said it had received reports of individuals and organisations contacting candidates and parents through phone calls, text messages, WhatsApp groups and social media platforms, falsely offering direct admission to the MBBS course at ABVIMS and Dr RML Hospital, affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU).
The institute clarified that admissions are conducted only through the prescribed process of eligibility checks, entrance examination, merit ranking and counselling by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). Neither ABVIMS and Dr RML Hospital nor GGSIPU has authorised any person, agency or consultant to guarantee admission.
The warning comes as admission-related scams increasingly target students and families seeking seats in reputed medical colleges. Fraudsters often exploit the pressure around medical admissions by offering assured seats in exchange for money or personal information. ABVIMS and Dr RML Hospital advised candidates to rely only on official sources for admission updates. It said the admission process for the 2026-27 academic session began on February 1, 2026, and urged applicants to regularly check official university and counselling websites.
The institute also warned students against allowing cyber cafe operators, admission counsellors, agents or other third parties to create registration accounts or manage applications on their behalf. Candidates were advised to create and protect their own login credentials to prevent misuse of personal information.
According to the advisory, admissions under GGSIPU are conducted through centralised online and offline counselling based strictly on merit, as outlined in the university’s Admission Brochure 2026-27. The institute said agents often obtained candidates’ contact details through unauthorised means and persuaded families to pay large sums for admissions that are decided only through merit and counselling.
Officials cautioned that such intermediaries might not only cause financial losses but may also demand further payments by falsely claiming they could secure admission to a preferred institution.
