PENAMPANG: Parents play a crucial role in ensuring their children, especially teenagers, do not fall prey to 'mule account' syndicates that could expose them to legal action, said Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick.
Ewon, who is also Sabah Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport Minister, said parents must actively advise their children against allowing irresponsible third parties to access or use their bank accounts for fraudulent purposes.
He warned that bank account owners face prosecution if their accounts are implicated in scams or illicit financial transactions.
Speaking at the Kapayan-level Digital Parenting Programme Series IV organised by the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN), Ewon noted that digital technology has become an essential part of daily life, transforming banking, commerce, and online government assistance applications.
He added that digital adoption must be balanced so that young people do not become overly fixated on smartphones to the detriment of their primary responsibilities and daily lives.
