In a disturbing development, scammers in Malaysia are now using a cunning new tactic to exploit WhatsApp users. This scam involves video calls and deepfake technology, with the potential to wreak havoc on the lives of unsuspecting victims.

Here's how the scam works: Scammers would initiate a video call to their target and keep the conversation going for as long as possible. During this call, they would then secretly record the victim's face. Once they have this recording in their possession, they employ deepfake technology to manipulate and edit the video.

What's even more alarming is how scammers then leverage the edited video to intimidate their victims. They'd typically demand a specific sum of money, threatening to release the manipulated video to everyone on the victim's contact list if their demands are not met.

In fact, one Malaysian individual has already fallen victim to this nefarious scheme, as evidenced by screenshots that have emerged. These screenshots serve as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of this scam.

In response to this growing threat, it is essential for WhatsApp users to exercise vigilance. Be cautious when receiving video calls, especially from unfamiliar or unrecognized numbers. It's advisable not to answer such calls unless you are absolutely certain of the caller's identity.
