BELURAN: Some 9,690kg of packet subsidised cooking oil worth RM24,225 and 5,000 litres of subsidised diesel worth RM10,750 meant to be smuggled to a neighbouring country were seized at Sungai Kolapis, near here, on Tuesday.

The seizure at 3.30pm was made by the Sabah enforcement division of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (MDTCA).

Sabah KPDNHEP Director Georgie Abas said also seized were the boat, scout and skid tank used to smuggle the items.

“The total value of the items, including the boat, was RM1,904,975,” he said.

He said the raid was conducted jointly with the Battalion 20 of the General Operations Force after three weeks of surveillance.

A local, in his 20s, was arrested to facilitate investigation into the case, he said, adding the case is being investigated under Section 21 of the 1961 Supplies Control Act for having controlled items with a view to committing a crime, read with Regulation 3(1) of the 1974 Supplies Control Regulations for trading controlled items without a licence.

The Ministry, Georgie said, was committed to implementing measures to regulate the supply and price of controlled goods and essential items such as chicken, eggs and cooking oil.
