Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the deputy prime minister of Malaysia, has acknowledged the existence of a plot called the "Dubai Move" to overthrow the government, as reported recently. According to Zahid, this movement involves not only leaders from the Perikatan Nasional coalition but also certain individuals from the government bloc.
He mentioned that they received intelligence reports about the alleged plotters' flight to Dubai and later obtained a report about their activities there. Zahid shared this information during a press conference after attending a briefing on disaster management in Putrajaya. However, Zahid also expressed his belief that such a move is a waste of time because the Malaysian people have already given their mandate to the elected Members of Parliament.
He emphasized that the unity government has strong support from more than two-thirds of the MPs, referring to the number of MPs who support Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's leadership. Zahid stressed that the priority should be the development of the country, particularly in terms of economic progress, to bring prosperity to the people rather than focusing on political issues.
When questioned about the identities of those involved in the plot, based on the intelligence reports, Zahid chose not to elaborate. Instead, he advised those individuals to wait until the next general election if they aspire to form a new government. He expressed his hope that the government would concentrate on strengthening the economy, assisting Malaysians, and establishing stability under Anwar's leadership as the 10th prime minister.
Last Saturday, Ismail Yusop, the deputy director-general of the Community Communications Department (J-Kom), claimed that there was a plot to topple the federal government. Ismail stated that the plan, known as the "Dubai Move," emerged during a recent vacation taken by Perikatan Nasional leaders and government backbenchers in the United Arab Emirates.
He further alleged that a meeting was held during the visit to assign specific tasks to "agents" responsible for identifying MPs who might switch their support to the opposition with incentives. However, the Perikatan Nasional coalition has denied the existence of such a plot. In conclusion, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has confirmed the existence of the "Dubai Move" plot to topple the government, involving leaders from both Perikatan Nasional and the government bloc.
Despite this acknowledgment, Zahid believes that the plot is futile considering the strong support the unity government enjoys. He encourages those involved to channel their efforts towards the development of the country and advises them to wait for the next general election if they desire a change in the government. The Perikatan Nasional coalition has denied the allegations of this plot.
