YouTuber and Bigg Boss OTT winner Elvish Yadav on Thursday launched the “Khargosh Janta Party” (KJP), a rabbit-themed political parody that promised “free gajar to everyone” and quickly became a talking point on social media.
The launch came at a time when the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has been holding protests against the government, leading to speculation online over whether Yadav’s latest satire was aimed at the opposition outfit’s campaign.
Moreover, the CJP, too, has come out from satire itself.
Another reason to believe so is that in a recent video, CJP’s spokesperson Vijeta Dahiya clarifying on questions why CJP did not hold an election before selecting national spokesperson, said, “If we were to select, should have gone for insta poll where Elvish Yadav’s army would eventually have voted him to be CJP’s spokesperson."
However, Yadav has not reacted to this so far.
He also invited supporters to gather at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, promising free carrots to those who attended. A dedicated social media page for the party was launched alongside the campaign, with Yadav presenting himself as the founder and jokingly referring to himself as the party’s prime minister.
The timing of the announcement has drawn attention because it coincides with political mobilisation by the CJP. However, Yadav did not explicitly state that the Khargosh Janta Party was intended as a response to the protest campaign.
Whether viewed as a standalone comedy campaign or a tongue-in-cheek intervention in a politically charged moment, the Khargosh Janta Party has succeeded in attracting attention.
Talking exclusively to The Tribune, Yadav’s close aide and his manager said: “Elvish is raw and spontaneous by nature. He does what he genuinely feels at a given moment, and that authenticity is what people connect with him. He believes a section of Gen-Z is losing direction, and this initiative stems from that concern. As of now, there is no fixed agenda or long-term plan attached to it. But if people embrace the idea and it resonates with a wider audience, he could certainly consider taking it further.”
