KUCHING: Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) set up in 2017 is the 3rd biggest oil and gas company in Malaysia after Petronas and Shell and is set to propel Sarawak’s economy to earning RM60 billion or more in state revenue by 2035.

Sarawak legal advisor Dato Sri JC Fong said Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg predicted this, even though Federal Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli said the proposed legislative framework for the carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) industry will adhere to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 platform’s ongoing discussions on state boundaries.

Fong was speaking at the Second Borneo States Symposium themed “Realising the Dreams and Visions of the Peoples of the Borneo States” at the Borneo Cultures Museum Auditorium recently, organised by “The Sarawak Initiatives” (TSI) and “Sabah Action Body Advocating Rights” (Sabar).

Sarawak has also designated Petros as the sole gas aggregator in the state under Section 7A of the Sarawak Distribution of Gas Ordinance 2016, a role held by Petronas.
