Bin crews across UK to make changes to collections amid heatwave

  • Bin collection crews across the country are starting their rounds earlier this week amid the extreme heat.
  • Cheltenham Borough Council, Somerset Council, and South Kesteven District Council, alongside Bristol Waste, are among those implementing earlier collection times.
  • Bristol Waste advised residents to place their bins out by 5am, as crews are beginning earlier “to avoid the main heat of the day.”
  • Cheltenham Borough Council confirmed that earlier starts would be in place until the weekend.
  • It wrote on X: “Due to the amber warnings of extreme heat , Heat-SWEP is active from today in Cheltenham and is expected to remain in place until Friday 26 June.”
