KENINGAU: The problem of overflowing flood water in two villages, Kampung Ranggom and Minansut, in the Bingkor area caused by drainage channels, paddy field irrigation and river erosion would be looked into.

Bingkor Assemblyman, Datuk Robert Tawik said this is the reason why the area is often flooded by overflowing flood water whenever it rains continuously which causes loss and destruction of properties, including agricultural produce.

“The river flow is now shallow in addition to the drainage system that is not regularly maintained. Also the irrigation system of the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) needs to be repaired as the construction of culverts cannot accommodate,” he told reporters after officiating open hall and gotong royong in Apin-Apin town area here.

Robert, who is also the Assistant Minister of Works, also paid attention to the same problem faced by residents of Kampung Semangkuk Apin-Apin.

He said among the suggestions was to move some residents to safer areas due to their residential areas almost collapsing due to river bank erosion and will be assisted through the PBR home assistance programme under the allocation of the natural disaster committee.
