Around 104-year-old Mehru turned up to cast his vote in the elections to Kandaghat Nagar Panchayat on Sunday.

The BJP-supported candidates won five of the seven seats in the elections to Kandaghat Nagar Panchayat while the Congress-backed candidates could secure only two seats. The winning BJP-supported candidates are Ravi Sethi, Rajkumar, Rajita, Neeraj and Monika Pandit. BJP’s district president Rattan Pal termed the results as a mandate highlighting resentment against the ruling Congress.

Puneet Sharma and Pushpa were the only two candidates who won in their wards. In the 2021 elections, too, the BJP had secured the majority of six of the seven seats while the Congress-backed candidates could win only one seat.

Kandaghat Nagar Panchayat recorded the highest voter turnout among the civic bodies in Solan district, while Parwanoo registered the lowest polling percentage. Kandaghat Nagar Panchayat witnessed an impressive 82.17 per cent voter turnout. A total of 1,548 voters exercised their franchise. Several elderly men and women also turned up to exercise their right to franchise.
