Temples, gurudwaras and dargahs across Delhi witnessed special prayers and religious ceremonies on Wednesday as BJP leaders celebrated 12 years of the NDA government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister.
From Jhandewalan Temple and Gurudwara Bangla Sahib to Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah and Hanuman Mandir at Connaught Place, party leaders gathered at nearly 20 religious sites across the city to offer prayers and seek blessings.
At Jhandewalan Temple, BJP national president Nitin Nabin joined Delhi BJP chief Harsh Malhotra, MP Bansuri Swaraj and other leaders in offering prayers. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta participated in a Sundarkand Path at Shri Ram Mandir in Kishanganj Gaushala, while BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh paid obeisance at Gurudwara Bangla Sahib.
The BJP’s Minority Morcha held special prayers at Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah, where Rajya Sabha MP Ghulam Ali Khatana and other leaders offered prayers. Party spokesperson Yasir Jilani presented a ceremonial chadar at the shrine. The occasion also marked the launch of the Minority Morcha’s “Sufi Samvad Abhiyan” in Delhi.
Prayers were also held at Birla Mandir, Hanuman Temple at Connaught Place, Shiv Shakti Temple in R.K. Puram, Maharishi Valmiki Temple, Arya Samaj Mandir Janakpuri, ISKCON Temple Rohini and several other religious sites across the city.
Senior BJP leaders, including Union Minister J.P. Nadda, BJP national vice-president Baijayant Panda, Union Minister Jitendra Singh, MPs Manoj Tiwari, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Swati Maliwal, along with Delhi ministers Parvesh Verma, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ashish Sood, Kapil Mishra, Ravinder Indraj Singh and Pankaj Singh, participated in events organised across different parts of the capital.
Speaking on the occasion, Nitin Nabin said Prime Minister Modi’s tenure represented a defining chapter in India’s democratic journey. He said Modi’s leadership had ensured that welfare benefits reached the poorest sections through initiatives related to housing, healthcare, drinking water, electricity and LPG connections.
“Prime Minister Modi understood the concerns of the poor and worked to ensure that every household received basic necessities. Under his leadership, millions have benefitted from welfare schemes and opportunities for growth,” he said.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said Modi’s leadership had focused on public service and empowerment, particularly through schemes aimed at women and economically weaker sections. She cited initiatives such as Ujjwala Yojana, Mudra Yojana and Drone Didi as examples of the government’s efforts.
Harsh Malhotra said the Prime Minister’s record tenure reflected the confidence people continued to place in his leadership and pointed to welfare programmes for the poor, youth and women.
Former Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said the Prime Minister’s 12 years in office had been marked by development, public welfare and good governance, and that prayers were being offered across the country for his long life and continued leadership.
Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta also congratulated the Prime Minister while attending a Sundarkand Path and bhandara at Balaji Mandir in Rohini. He said India had witnessed significant expansion in healthcare, housing, digital infrastructure and financial inclusion, while strengthening India’s standing on the global stage in the past decade.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Modi completed 4,399 consecutive days in office, surpassing the previous record for the longest uninterrupted tenure by a democratically elected Prime Minister of India.
