BJP state president Rajeev Bindal on Tuesday released the party’s “sankalp patra” for the Solan Municipal Corporation (MC) elections, terming it as a guarantee of development, accountability and good governance. He said that the “sankalp patra” was not merely a document of promises but a road map for the development of Solan city. “The BJP has resolved to transform Solan into the cleanest, safest, greenest and smartest city. Ensuring modern door-to-door garbage collection, establishment of a scientific waste management plant, digital monitoring of sanitation services and an increase in the number of sanitation workers are our other promises,” he added.
Bindal, while addressing mediapersons, said, “Clean, regular and adequate drinking water supply in every household, besides a special action plan to prevent leakage, construction of dedicated water tanks in every ward and the expansion of sewerage network are our other priorities.”
Bindal said that civic amenities like multi-level parking facilities in key areas, including two-wheeler parking in crowded areas, vending zones for street vendors and a special cell in the Municipal Corporation to address issues faces by traders would be set up if the BJP was voted to power. Awareness drives to make Solan a drug-free city, welfare of senior citizens, women and differently-abled citizens, digitisation of services in the civic body and ensuring time-bound governance have also been enlisted in the vision document.
Bindal criticised the state government and the functioning of the Municipal Corporation and said that though the Congress was in power at every level, the people of Solan were still struggling for basic amenities like drinking water, cleanliness and parking.
He reminded the Congress of its promises made during the 2021 civic body elections like affordable and regular water supply to every household but not fulfilled. He rued that irregular and unclean water had become the hallmark of the city and residents were compelled to purchase water, besides paying exorbitant bills.
Bindal said, “Instead of free garbage collection, the residents have to pay heavy charges while the city has become a dumping ground. The sanitation system has collapsed and promised amenities like parking, transport hub, parks and development in wards have remained on paper.”
