The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a sharp attack on Aam Aadmi Party, alleging that the party’s anti-corruption image is a sham, particularly after the ED named key AAP leaders in connection with money laundering investigations in Punjab.

BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh said the Bhagwant Mann government has reduced Punjab to a hub of corruption, crime and drugs. He said a party that came to power claiming to represent “staunchly honest people” has now become a party of “staunchly dishonest people”. Chugh alleged that corruption has been completely institutionalised under the AAP government and claimed that even the Vigilance Department, created to curb corruption, is now itself mired in corrupt practices.

Raising the issue of the alleged mining scam, Chugh said Arvind Kejriwal had personally visited Chandigarh and promised that mining reforms would generate Rs 20,000 crore for the state exchequer. However, he claimed that official records show that even Rs 1,000 crore has not been realised, resulting in an alleged loss of nearly Rs 19,200 crore.

He further alleged that the 2025 floods in Punjab were caused by illegal mining carried out by AAP workers. “Villagers had been protesting and filing FIRs since April 2025, yet the greed for corruption was so overwhelming that nearly 2,100 villages in Punjab were submerged,” Chugh claimed.

The BJP leader also targeted the state government over law and order, alleging that gangsters, extortion rackets, looting gangs and institutionalised corruption and torture by AAP leaders have become routine occurrences in Punjab.

Referring to the ED action against Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora, Chugh claimed that the agency possesses documentary evidence related to an alleged Rs 100 crore money laundering case. — TNS
