Netizens urge focus on individual accountability, not race, after fatal Klang crash, calling for stricter DUI laws
NETIZENS have stressed that crimes should be attributed to individuals rather than race or religion, following a fatal crash in Klang that claimed the life of a motorcyclist in his 30s.
In a Threads post, a user known as Murugan apologised on behalf of the Malaysian Indian community, describing it as “problematic” in light of the incident.
“We Indians have already been facing backlash over the past few months, and now look at this foolish drunk driving incident that has killed a son, a father, a husband, a human being,” he wrote.
“Indians, don’t defend or twist anything when it’s clearly wrong. I hate to say it, but we are part of the problem when things like this keep happening,” he added, while urging others not to drink and drive.
However, many netizens pushed back against linking the incident to any race, emphasising that responsibility lies with the individual involved.
“I don’t see his skin, race or religion. I see him as a killer. I see someone who abuses alcohol and drugs,” said user @hanamirah.cos, who also called on the government to strengthen laws and enforcement against substance abuse and driving under the influence.
Echoing similar sentiments, Azleen Aween Syarina said, “The one at fault is the driver, not the race. This is about an individual, not any particular group. We are all human and the same.”
She also expressed condolences to the victim’s family and hoped the driver would face appropriate punishment.
Other users pointed out that those who consume alcohol should opt for e-hailing services as a safer alternative for all road users.
