Explosions heard and smoke seen over central Dubai, with reports of a building shaking and sirens near Sheikh Zayed Road.

DUBAI: Loud explosions were heard and a large plume of smoke was seen over a central area of Dubai on Friday. AFP correspondents reported the blasts rattled buildings in the Middle Eastern financial hub.

One correspondent felt their building shake from a huge explosion. Sirens were also heard coming from the direction of the city’s main artery, Sheikh Zayed Road.

This incident follows a drone falling near Dubai’s financial district on Thursday. That event occurred after Iran threatened to target economic institutions, prompting some companies to evacuate staff.

The United Arab Emirates has faced repeated attacks from Iran during the ongoing Middle East war. Dubai’s airport, one of the world’s busiest, has been repeatedly targeted alongside its port and luxury real estate developments like the Palm Jumeirah.
