Jenna Ortega leads Taika Waititi’s adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s acclaimed novel about friendship, loss and artificial intelligence.

Based on the bestselling novel from Nobel Prize-winner Kazuo Ishiguro, Academy Award winner Taika Waititi’s next film Klara and the Sun is set to be released in cinemas on Oct 22 with Wednesday star Jenna Ortega in the lead role.

Written and directed by Waititi, Klara and the Sun will introduce audiences to Ortega’s Klara, an Artificial Friend who wants nothing more than to find the perfect home and when Klara meets Josie (Mia Tharia), each immediately senses a kindred spirit in the other.

Josie has a fraught relationship with her mother (Amy Adams) and they have suffered great loss but Klara’s innocent wonder and unwavering loyalty begin to heal the family and bring light to Josie’s complicated world.

Story of humanity

Written and directed by Waititi, Klara and the Sun will also feature a score from Michael Giacchino, Waititi’s long-time collaborator from Jojo Rabbit, Thor: Love and Thunder and Next Goal Wins.

In Ishiguro’s novel, the eighth in his career, Klara and the Sun deals with themes from his previous books, including the dangers of technological advancement, the future of the world and the meaning of being human. The author will also serve as an executive producer for the film.

Klara and the Sun will also star Steve Buscemi, Natasha Lyonne and Aran Murphy.
