KOTA BELUD: The Sabah Land and Survey Department cracked down on illegal sand mining on titled land in Kg Rampayan, here.
Its Director Datuk Sr. Bernard Liew Chau Min said enforcement teams were deployed following public complaints before launching the raid on the site.
“The operation uncovered that illegal operators were mining and transporting sand out of the area without authorisation or licence. These activities were carried out during the day.
“An Excavator Hitachi EX 200 and a pontoon (sand suction machine) used for extracting and collecting sand were seized. However, no arrests were made as the workers managed to flee.
“The department lodged a police report. A formal investigation paper (IP) will be opened once the Enforcement Unit’s Investigation Division gathers all necessary information,” the department said.
