Office-bearers and activists from various social, medical, educational and other organisations vowed to aid the World Health Organization (WHO) campaign to highlight the impact of blood and plasma donation on emergency responses, treatment of grave diseases, surgeries and transplants.
Oaths to this effect were taken on Sunday during various events under the aegis of the Health Department to mark the World Blood Donor Day.
Ahmedgarh senior medical officer (SMO) Dr Jyoti Kapoor said the day is observed on birthday of Karl Landsteiner, a geneticist who won the Nobel Prize for discovering ABO blood grouping.
Tejwant Kittu, a renowned music director, said artistes and singers performing at public functions were asked to call upon audience to thank voluntary blood donors and raise awareness on the need for safe blood transfusion.
Event organisers said social activists should join hands to translate the theme — One drop of humanity, give blood and save lives — into reality.
