A military pilot covered in blood greeted police officers shortly after he was ejected from his fighter jet during a fiery crash, dramatic footage shows.
Video released by Yakima County Sheriff’s Office shows the “frazzled” pilot of an F-18 jet approaching deputies whilst on the phone to 999.
“We were doing circles over the lake, doing some low-level training…and then I tucked in, and I’m not sure exactly,” he explained, as a witness told him “you hit a tree bad, bud”.
His fighter jet had just slammed into a Washington mountainside during military training exercises in June, igniting a fire and sending thick plumes of smoke into the air.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
