- James controversially characterised Glastonbury as a "gory drugs bender", contrasting it with his preferred event, Roskilde festival in Denmark, which he praised for its "civilised" atmosphere, excellent food, and clean facilities.
- The musician's comments come despite Blur's significant history with Glastonbury, having performed there on four occasions and headlined the festival twice, in 1998 and 2009.
- Blur frontman Damon Albarn has also had a notable presence at Glastonbury, headlining with Gorillaz in 2010 and making a surprise appearance in 2024 to advocate for Palestine.
- The band recently reunited for their 2023 album 'The Ballad of Darren' and a subsequent tour, with a brief hiatus interruption for a Coachella performance where Albarn publicly expressed frustration with the audience's lack of engagement.
