BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi hopes coalition’s core parties, including MIC, will continue to be strengthened following PPP’s return

BAGAN DATUK: Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi hopes cooperation among the coalition’s core parties, including MIC, will continue to be strengthened.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the return of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has made the coalition of parties within BN more stable.

“We in BN hold the position that every coalition party, especially the core parties, we respect each other,” he told reporters after officiating the groundbreaking ceremony for the QL Innofood Park company here.

“MIC has been a core party since the days of the Alliance Party together with MCA and UMNO, and we hope that the core parties within BN can continue to be strengthened,” said Ahmad Zahid, who is also UMNO president.

However, he said any decision made at MIC’s upcoming emergency meeting is the right and stance of the party itself.

MIC was reported to be holding an emergency meeting soon to discuss its official entry into Perikatan Nasional (PN).

MIC president Tan Sri S. A. Vigneswaran said although PN has given the green light for MIC to join the opposition coalition, it needs to be implemented through official processes.
