BN’s Mohd Ismail wins Lamag state seat with a 5,681-vote majority, securing the seat after the passing of incumbent Bung Moktar Radin.

KINABATANGAN: Barisan Nasional (BN) retained the Lamag state seat after its candidate obtained a majority of 5,681 votes to beat Mazliwati Abdul Malek of Warisan.

The by-election results were announced by returning officer Dr Eddy Syaizul Rizam Abdullah at the official vote counting centre at Dewan Sri Lamag here tonight.

Mohd Ismail, who is better known as Miha, garnered 7,269 votes against Mazliwati’s 1,588 votes.

The by-election was called following the death of its incumbent Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin on Dec 5 last year. He was 66.

Bung Moktar had defended the Lamag seat for the second term during the 17th Sabah state election in November with a majority of 153 votes.

Meanwhile, Eddy Syaizul Rizam said there were 160 spoilt votes.

He conveyed his appreciation to all parties involved in the by-election, which he said went smoothly without any disruptions.

Mohd Ismail, dressed in a black t-shirt, was spotted entering the hall at 9.55 pm and was joined by Sabah BN deputy chairman Datuk Jafry Ariffin. – Bernama
