BN sweeps Kinabatangan and Lamag by-elections with decisive majorities

Barisan Nasional candidates win both Sabah by-elections, securing the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat and Lamag state seat with large majorities.

KINABATANGAN: Barisan Nasional (BN) has secured decisive victories in both the Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state by-elections.

The Election Commission (EC) announced that BN’s Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar won the P.187 Kinabatangan seat with 19,852 votes and a majority of 14,214.

For the N.58 Lamag state seat, BN candidate Mohd Ismail Ayob was declared the winner with 7,269 votes, securing a majority of 5,681.

Voter turnout for the Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election was recorded at 55.06%.

The turnout for the Lamag state seat by-election was higher, at 64.93%.

The by-elections were called following the death of the incumbent, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, on 5 December last year.
