Zahid pledges full state-federal cooperation if BN wins Johor election, urging voters to reject divisive political sentiment.
PONTIAN: BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has assured that he will ensure that the Johor State Government moves in line and provides full support to the federal government if it is given a mandate in the Johor state election.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also UMNO president, said that good leadership is rooted in strong political stability, especially when victory is achieved with a higher number of seats and majority.
The BN administration at the state level, he said, never intends to challenge the administration at the central level in any election campaign.
“I assure you that if the mandate is given again, the government in Johor state led by our friend will continue to work together with the central government for the benefit of the entire Johor people, God willing,” he said at the Johor State Kemas Staff Meeting at Pontian MARA Junior Science College here, today.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, also expressed his commitment to ensure full cooperation between the state administration and Putrajaya in order to strengthen the existing Unity Government.
“I would like to mention that the Johor Government that will be formed, let alone if a larger mandate is given, I and we (BN) will ensure that this Johor Government is a government that will continue to be in line with the central government in Putrajaya,” he said.
Therefore, Ahmad Zahid reminded all parties not to manipulate political sentiment by claiming that voters supposedly need to choose representatives from a certain group only to ensure harmony with the central government.
“And don’t play around with issues, only choose those who supposedly come from the same coalition or party. We are also in the same coalition,” he said.
He called on voters and candidates contesting throughout the 14-day campaign period to implement the democratic process maturely to choose representatives who are capable of strengthening stability and developing the state of Johor.
He also expressed his appreciation to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) as well as government departments and agencies involved in ensuring the smooth and safe election process.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid also praised the role of the Community Development Department (KEMAS) and expressed his wish that the salary scheme for KEMAS workers could be improved through proposals that would be submitted to the government.
