MELAKA: Barisan Nasional (BN) will begin negotiations with two parties next week on cooperation for the Melaka state election, said its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The UMNO president said Melaka BN chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki would represent the party in the negotiations.
“Next week, the (UMNO) headquarters has arranged two separate meetings, on different dates and at different times, with two different groups.
“And certainly, as a political coalition under the BN banner, we want to look at the medium- and long-term benefits for the country, particularly for our coalition of parties,” he told reporters after opening the Musyawarah Nasional – Membongkar Polemik Tanah Melayu programme at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh here today.
The Melaka State Legislative Assembly was dissolved effective Wednesday (Sept 23) to pave the way for the 16th state election.
In the 2021 state election, BN won 21 of the 28 seats contested, while Pakatan Harapan won five seats and Perikatan Nasional two.
