Following the Merdeka scrapbook poster featuring images of the Chinese military, another teacher found herself under fire for a different matter.
This time, a religious teacher in Negeri Sembilan went viral after insulting the indigenous people by equating Barisan Nasional (BN) and UMNO supporters to the Orang Asli community. The screenshot of her comment on TikTok is now circulating on social media.
“The supporters of BN & UMNO are the same level as the Orang Asli.”
The comment was made after the result of the Nenggiri State Legislative Assembly (DUN) by-election (PRK) in Gua Musang, Kelantan over the weekend.
Her remark did not sit well with many Malaysians, who were shocked to see such a statement coming from an educator. Following the criticisms, the teacher has since made an apology via her Facebook post.
“I’m sorry for my mistake and for what I said. I feel so guilty about it. I admit this is my fault and forgive me for that. My comment is personal and is not related to any institutions.”
The Negeri Sembilan Education Department (JPNS) is investigating the teacher and said the investigation will be carried out under Subregulation 19(1)(a) of the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993 regarding public statements.
“The regulation states that public officials cannot verbally, and in writing, make statements that could harm any government policy, plan and decision on any issue.”
In its statement, JPNS said they will be monitoring the teacher involved and a report will be written by the Planning and Management Sector of the JPNS District Education Office.
JPNS also said that employees of the Ministry of Education (KPM) must not make or share any statement that touches on matters that may affect the image of government policies.
