Barisan Nasional will not interfere in matters involving the royal institution and the Negeri Sembilan Council of Justice and Laws ahead of the state election, says Ahmad Zahid.

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) will not interfere in matters involving the royal institution and the Negeri Sembilan Council of Justice and Laws (DKU) ahead of the upcoming state election, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the UMNO president, said this was among the points emphasised during a meeting with the state’s party leadership as part of preparations for the state polls.

“We will never interfere in legal matters, particularly those involving the royal institution and the DKU in Negeri Sembilan.

“We must remain outside of that sphere,” he told reporters after attending the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) Excellent Service and Appreciation ceremony here today.

Also present was Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang.

Ahmad Zahid said BN’s current priority is to ensure unity among party leaders and members at all levels in preparation for the upcoming polls involving 36 state seats.

According to him, the party expects to face a different situation in this state election compared to previous ones.

“At the 15th state polls, BN worked together with component parties in Pakatan Harapan (PH), but that approach will not be taken this time.

“What is important is the unity among leaders and members at all levels to face this (state) election,” he said.

Polling for the 16th Negeri Sembilan election has been set for Aug 1.
