
Bank Negara Malaysia favours a holistic, targeted approach to economic support, citing resilience and existing post-pandemic aid measures, with no broad stimulus planned.
KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has indicated no immediate need for a broad economic stimulus package despite the ongoing West Asia conflict.
Governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour said support must be holistic and targeted, not broad-based, assessing the overall health of the economy.
He noted Malaysia is entering the year from a position of strength after recovering from multiple crises, particularly the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We must take note and acknowledge that we have come out from a few crises especially the COVID-19 pandemic,” he told reporters after releasing BNM’s flagship reports.
Abdul Rasheed said extensive post-pandemic support measures, which were largely targeted, remain in place.
He added that banks stand ready to assist borrowers, corporates, and SMEs facing financial issues.
The government continues to gather sectoral feedback through the National Economic Action Council (MTEN).
This enables authorities to form a comprehensive view and channel assistance where it is most needed.
