BNM urges financial institutions to assist families affected by Nepal-China flood disaster

FINANCIAL service providers are ready to assist and support families of victims affected by the recent flood disaster along the Nepal-China border, in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) announced that relief or compassionate measures include repayment deferrals, fee and charge waivers, and flexibility in documentation requirements pending the resolution of related legal processes.

"Financial institutions may also prioritise the processing and verification of policy or certificate status, expedite the payment of insurance and takaful claims, and provide other appropriate forms of support based on the needs of affected families," BNM stated.

The central bank advised the next-of-kin of affected Malaysians to contact their respective financial institutions to secure appropriate assistance. - October 3, 2026
