Boat Capsizes in Port Klang & Kills 3 Malaysians, Including a 3yo Boy, While 2 Others Go Missing

A tragic incident claimed the lives of 3 individuals yesterday, while 2 more have gone missing, as a boat capsized in the waters of Tanjung Harapan, Port Klang, Selangor.

BERNAMA quoted Selangor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director, Maritime Captain Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh, as saying that the incident occurred at around 5 pm and involved six locals, aged between three and 50.

The 3 victims who lost their lives have been identified as 50-year-old Cheu Son Hin, 29-year-old Fong Yong Sen and a 3-year-old boy, Darren Gan.

Darren Gan is the son of the 2 victims who went missing, 32-year-old Gan Hon Tat and 29-year-old Careen Man. The family was from Klang Utama.

The other individual who was on the boat, 17-year-old Chang Yang Qin Alvin, survived the incident and was rescued by fishermen.

Search for the 2 missing individuals is ongoing

Abdul Muhaimin said that initial investigations found that the boat likely lost control before capsizing. He further revealed that his team activated the rescue operation at 5.16 pm yesterday after receiving information about the incident.

The operation was promptly launched, involving assets from the MMEA and supported by the Marine Police Force (PPM), the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), as well as passenger boats nearby.

The Selangor MMEA director added,

“The capsized boat was successfully towed to the floating jetty of the Selangor MMEA headquarters before the search and rescue operation was suspended at around 8 pm,”

The search for the 2 missing individuals continued this morning, with JBPM conducting diving operations.
