SANDAKAN: The body of a Filipino who was reported missing after jumping off the passenger ferry at Karamunting Port, was found on Friday by the Marine Police team.

The body of the illegal immigrant known as Razmel Abdul Rahim, 31, was found at 8.39am at the second jetty of Karamunting, which was 600 metres from the location where he jumped off.

Earlier, the witness who was at the scene, contacted the authorities about the incident.

The incident happened at 6.45pm when the ferry started its journey to the Philippines where Razmel suddenly jumped into the sea through the 4th floor window of the ferry.

Fire and Rescue Station Acting Chief Suriyadi Darwis said the fire Brigade started its search operation in the surrounding area after receiving information from the police on the same day.

The operation to search for the victim was then continued on Thursday and Friday with other agencies, namely the police force and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) using aluminium boats with the ‘surface rescue’ method around the area.

The victim’s body was then handed over to the police for further action.
