KENINGAU: The body of a 13-year-old boy who went missing during an outing with friends at a river here was found on Monday night.

The remains of Aloysius Alfred were found by members of the search and rescue (SAR) operation some 500 metres from where he was last seen at the river in Kampung Panagatan.

The SAR operation was mounted after the teen was reported missing at 5.50pm while he was swimming with four friends, aged eight to 13, with one of the boy’s 74-year-old grandfather accompanying them.

A 10-year-old boy, Jackson Mark, in the group was almost swept away by strong currents but rescued by his grandfather, Jainis Gampanga, 74.

His body was handed over to police for further action and the operation ended at 10pm.
